Raspberry Pi and sensor attached to wall

I made this during fall break to let other members know when there were people working in the machine shop, so they could come help. When the door opens, a magnet attached to it moves away from the hall-effect sensor. A Rails app running on a Raspberry Pi reads the sensor’s output.

We got a camera, and I’m currently adding a livestream to the website. When this project is more mature, I’ll also integrate with Twilio to send text message alerts when the door opens.
