Thoughts on Ferguson

Upon seeing the news in Ferguson, many people in my Twitter and Facebook timelines were outraged. They wondered what our country has become, what our legal system has come to, etc.

The reality is that America hasn’t become anything. Rather, this is the default state of affairs for many people, the way America has always been. The racism and unequal treatment of the 1960s never left us — it’s just moved so that we (people born into privilege) didn’t see it anymore. And now, Twitter is exposing it again by giving everyone a voice.

This post doesn’t represent any new insight, but it’s something which was interesting for me to reflect on, so I wanted to share that.
